2022 White Belt of The Year
I started my Jiu Jitsu journey on Nov 4th 2021, it was during a big transition in my life and little did I know it would make a huge impact on my life, and would be a sport I’d become passionate about. Aside from Jiu Jitsu I’m also a competitive powerlifter but unlike powerlifting, Jiu Jitsu is very intense and faster paced, and requires physical contact, completely different than anything I was used to and had ever done. I originally started Jiu Jitsu for self-defense purposes, but now I keep at it for much more than that, I keep at it because of the confidence it gives me, because of the family I’ve gained, because of my teammates and coaches that push me and motivate me, because of the knowledge I’ve gained and the skills I’ve acquired that will help me in and out of the gym. I highly recommend Jiu Jitsu for anyone and everyone, you get to choose how your journey goes, you’ll gain a whole community and family that will be there to support you, teach you and motivate you.
I feel beyond blessed to be a part of such an amazing community and especially to be a part of Checkmat Charlotte. To be nominated by my coaches for White Belt of the year, is humbling because I have my team, and coaches to thank for always being patient with me, teaching me in such a tactful and understanding way. I look forward to continuing to learn and continuing to compete and put the time and energy into a sport that gives me more than just a workout.
