Student of The Month for October - Tim Goodwin

  Congratulations to Octobers student of the month, Tim Goodwin. Tim fought through three rounds of the World’s best Brown Belt competition on October 8 to win his first Masters 2 IBJJF No Gi World Championship. Tim has had a active year competing in major tournaments across the United States in both Gi and No Gi formats. Some of Tims accomplishments thus far has been placing in American Nationals, Pan Ams and of course his most recent and biggest achievement coming at the No Gi Worlds. Tim is Checkmat Charlotte’s first and only No Gi World Champion and our second Masters World Champion.
 
  Tim had this to say about winning the No Gi World Title, “ It was a great moment and it felt like years of hard work paid off.”.

 Tim comes from a extensive martial arts background owning a 1st degree Black Belt in tae kwon do and training in Muay Thai. He also wrestled in college at Appalachain State University from 2005 -2008. Where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Health Promotion. Tim also has competed professionally in the dangerous arena of MMA compiling a overall record of 14-9. 
 
  Tim is married to Tamayah Goodwin with whom he runs Checkmat Charlotte affiliate, TNT Martial Arts in Columbia, SC . They have two beautiful chidren, Quentin 4 and Sophia 3. You can find Tim on the TNT mats located at 1330 Knox Abbot Drive, Cayce, SC 29033. Be sure to drop in and try a class.
