Student of The Month For September- Brock Kirkland

  Congratulations to our Student of The Month For September, Brock Kirkland. Brock started his Jiu Jitsu journey in April of 2019. He comes to us ffom a small town outside of Madison, WI. He has a degree in applied Sciences with focus on Network Engineering. Thats his profession, but his hobby and passion is in bending and twisting things here at Checkmat Charlotte. You can find Brock on the mats most 6am classes, but if you really need to see him look no further than Friday open mat at 6am. Guaranteed he will be there with his always friendly smile ready to welcome anyone and everyone. In fact, you could call that class his baby considering that he approached coach Michael with the idea of starting a open mat session on Fridays. Coach Michael relented and the rest is history. Now Checkmat Charlotte offers two open mat sessions. One on Friday at 6am and one on Sunday at 2pm. Brock being the driving force behind it along with his always welcoming attitude and demeanor is the reason Brock won student of the  month and this awesome Checkmat Rashguard. Brock had this to say about Jiu Jitsu and  Checkmat Charlotte, “I fell in love with it as soon as I started and was going everyday I could. I went to open mats at a bunch of different schools , but none could really keep up with Checkmat Charlotte so here I am.”. Brock received his Blue belt in November of 2020 and continues to be a important part of our Checkmat family.
