Student Of The Month for November winner, Jeff Zazarro answered some questions for us about his martial arts journey and his experience at Checkmat Charlotte. Jeff has been with us since 2017 and currently holds the rank of Blue Belt. Per his answers Jeff won a bag of delicious coffee from Forte Lagato, a local coffee company in nearby Fort Mill, SC.
What is your name, how old are you and Where are you originally from?
Jeff Zazzaro. 48 years old. Originally from Southington, Connecticut
How do you manage training bjj, and having a family at the same time?
Checkmat Charlotte offers multiple times for classes. I go to morning and afternoon classes and spend evenings with my family.
What brought you to BJJ and Checkmat Charlotte?
I have always been claustrophobic and it kept me away from BJJ. I got to a point in my life, where I wanted to over come it. I took a trial at Checkmat and loved the environment and the instruction. I felt comfortable there and trusted Michael's instruction right away.
What is your favorite color for a gi?
Black
If you could be one animal, what would it be?

What is your favorite food before practice?
Coffee. I can't eat before practices.
Who is your favorite BJJ practitioner?
Michael Allen of course. But besides Michael Allen, Henry Akins.

The people I train with.
What advice would you give to a brand new student starting BJJ?
Stay at it. Consistency over intensity. Trust in your instructor and realize it's a long journey.
