Michael Allen
About Michael - Michael is the owner of Checkmat Charlotte and a recognized 2nd degree Black Belt by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation. He has coached numerous Champions in High school Wrestling, Mixed Martial Arts and Jiu Jitsu over the last twenty five years. Michael began his grappling training in 2000 in Asheville, NC at the famed catch wrestling academy and mixed martial arts team , Team Huskey under the tutelage of Johnny Huskey. This led to his introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu shortly thereafter. In 2014 Michael received his Black Belt from Professor Joe Hurst and joined the world famous Checkmat affiliation under the guidance of World Champion Leo Vieira. Michael has trained numerous Champions and coached athletes in prestigious organizations such as the IBJJF, UFC and Bellator. Michael has dedicated his life to spreading the art and sport of Jiu Jitsu. Michael is married and has five beautiful children.
Checkmat Charlotte, its athletes, and Prof. Allen are all proud members of Team Checkmat, an internationally recognized network of affiliate gyms and competition team. Checkmat boasts multiple world championship titles with the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation, Abu Dhabi Combat Club, Brazilian National Tournament, and other prestigious competitions. Through Checkmat we are held to a higher standard as practitioners and competitors in BJJ, and together we grow stronger!
